Broker Overview

The 2001 Vitters 147' Ketch, 'CATALINA' (ex-TIMONEER), represents a unique opportunity for a discerning buyer seeking a pedigree sailing yacht. Built by the highly respected Dutch yard Vitters and designed by the late Ed Dubois, her aluminum construction speaks to a commitment to quality, performance, and longevity. This is not a production boat; she is a custom build with a proven track record. Her John Munford interior, finished in solid cherry, offers a classic, comfortable, and remarkably spacious layout, featuring a large master suite with his and her heads, two additional guest staterooms, and two single berth cabins, all aft. The single Caterpillar 3412E DI-TA HP engine provides reliable auxiliary power. While she is a ketch, offering versatile sail plans, her size and displacement mean she is a serious offshore vessel, not a coastal day sailor. The asking price of $11,500,000 reflects her custom build, renowned designers, and substantial size. For a yacht of this caliber and age, a thorough survey will be paramount, but the underlying quality from Vitters is a strong foundation. This vessel is positioned for an owner who values blue-water capability, classic design, and robust construction.

Expert Review

This Vitters 147' ketch is a testament to high-quality Dutch yacht building and Dubois's design prowess. The aluminum hull provides an excellent balance of strength, weight, and corrosion resistance, crucial for a yacht intended for extensive cruising. Owners can expect a solid, comfortable ride in various sea conditions, typical of a well-designed ketch of this size. The single Caterpillar 3412E is a workhorse, known for reliability, though a comprehensive engine survey, including oil analysis, is essential given its age. When surveying, pay close attention to the standing rigging, sail inventory, and all hydraulics, as these systems on a yacht of this scale are complex and costly to maintain. Also, inspect the condition of the teak decks and the integrity of the cherry interior joinery. Value for money here lies in the custom build quality and design legacy; while there are larger or newer yachts, few offer this level of proven pedigree at this price point. Comparable alternatives might include larger Oyster or Swan yachts, though a custom Vitters holds a distinct position.
