Broker Overview

This 2003 Taswell 58, currently asking $450,000 in Fort Lauderdale, represents a compelling opportunity for a discerning buyer seeking a high-quality cruising yacht. Designed by Bill Dixon and built by Ta Shing, a yard renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, this vessel stands out immediately due to its superior joinery and robust fiberglass construction. The interior boasts a remarkably spacious salon for its size, featuring a large dining area and a comfortable sitting area, all bathed in natural light from the raised deck salon. The curved furniture design exemplifies a build quality rarely seen in newer yachts. While equipped with a single Yanmar 4LHA-HTP engine, which offers reliable and economical cruising, potential buyers should note that a single engine configuration, while simpler to maintain, does present different maneuvering characteristics compared to twin-engine setups. The moderate 6’9” draft provides a good balance for offshore capability and access to many desirable anchorages. The layout includes a well-appointed galley, a comfortable VIP cabin forward, and a third cabin, making it suitable for extended family cruising or having guests aboard. This Taswell 58 offers significant value for its build quality and interior volume at this price point, making it a strong contender for those prioritizing comfort and craftsmanship.

Expert Review

The Taswell 58, particularly those from the Ta Shing yard, are known for their robust construction and meticulous finish. This 2003 model is no exception, offering a level of craftsmanship that often surpasses vessels in its price range. The Bill Dixon design ensures a capable and comfortable sea boat, though a sea trial will confirm its specific handling characteristics with the single Yanmar engine. For a survey, pay close attention to the condition of the teak decks, if present, and ensure all systems, particularly the single main engine and auxiliary systems, are well-maintained. The value proposition here is strong, offering a custom-quality yacht at a production boat price. Comparable alternatives might include certain Passport or Island Packet models, though few will match the interior volume and specific joinery details of this Taswell. This is a yacht for a buyer who appreciates solid construction and timeless design over modern trends.
