Broker Overview

This 2014 Powerplay Power Catamaran, at 63 feet, represents a compelling opportunity for serious cruisers seeking volume, efficiency, and range. Designed for long-distance voyages, 'Albatross' is equipped with twin Cummins 6BT-5.9 HP engines paired with Zeus pods, offering both reliable power and exceptional maneuverability. The 1200nm range at 10 knots, coupled with a top speed of 22 knots, provides significant flexibility for extended exploration. Her fiberglass hull ensures a robust and proven platform. The interior volume, a hallmark of catamarans, is truly impressive, featuring four symmetrical staterooms, each with an ensuite head, accommodating eight guests comfortably. The main deck galley is notably spacious and well-appointed, flowing into an open-plan dining and entertainment area. With substantial solar power, inverters, ducted reverse cycle air conditioning, and a watermaker, she is set up for self-sufficiency. The large foredeck offers ample lounging space and tender storage, while the flybridge provides a well-appointed helm and additional entertainment areas. Expert Review

The Powerplay 63 is a purpose-built long-range power catamaran, and this specific vessel, 'Albatross,' exemplifies that design brief. Build quality, typical of Powerplay, focuses on robust construction suitable for extended offshore passages. The fiberglass hull is proven, and the twin Cummins engines are a reliable choice. The Zeus pod drives significantly enhance close-quarters handling, a benefit on a vessel of this beam. Sea-keeping in catamarans of this size is generally comfortable, offering stability in varying conditions, though a sea trial in real-world chop is always recommended. For a buyer, the value for money here is considerable, given the size, range, and extensive cruising equipment package at $850,000. During a survey, pay close attention to the condition of the Zeus pods, the solar array's charging efficiency, and the operational status of all major systems like the watermaker and air conditioning. Comparable alternatives might include other custom or semi-custom power cats from builders like Lagoon or Leopard, but often at a higher price point for similar capabilities.
