Broker's Perspective

What Buyers Should Know

The SLX 400 is Sea Ray's flagship sport boat and one of the most capable day boats on the market in the 40-foot class. It is not a cruiser — there is no enclosed cabin for overnighting — but as a pure day boat and entertainer, it is hard to beat. The cockpit layout is enormous, the swim platform is a genuine social space, and the fit and finish are a clear step above competitors like Boston Whaler or Regal in this size range. Available in both sterndrive and outboard configurations, the outboard version (SLX 400 OB) adds nearly 3 feet of overall length and significantly more fuel capacity at 375 gallons. Buyers should note that the sterndrive version requires more maintenance but delivers a cleaner transom look. Resale on the SLX 400 is strong — these boats hold value well in the Florida market.
