The Hughs 40 is considered a true blue-water vessel as they were designed by Sparkman Stephens and built in Ontario Canada as a go anywhere cruising vessel.
The hull is reported as 1 3/8 inch solid glass and the decks 1/2 inch solid glass. She is known to stay upright in heavy air with her modified long fin keel and skeg hung rudder and the center cockpit has a reputation as a safe dry helm area.
This vessel has been undergoing a refit since the current owner purchased her. The previous owner brought the vessel to Florida from Lake Ontario.
Newer electronics (2021) and partial rigging(2024) make her a strong choice to head to the islands and beyond. A ketch rig and 5 foot draft make for a well balanced go any where vessel.
She has two staterooms and two heads, a large main salon, galley, nav station and has a walk-thru to the aft cabin.
She is a perfect example of a high quality blue-water sailboat from the 70’s making her an excellent offshore vessel or live aboard.

«When things weren't working out with my previous Yacht Broker, a friend of mine suggested that I contact Yacht Access to sell my Sea Ray. I contacted Dan Paolillo at Yacht Access and there was absolutely no pressure. After our initial conversation Dan followed up with a list of comparable vessels recently sold and a list of similar vessels currently available with asking prices. After looking over the information we decided on an asking price and within 90 days Dan had my yacht under contract. Two weeks later it was sold. Since then we've kept in close touch and will hopefully be closing on my next vessel soon. After no success selling my 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge with my previous broker, calling Yacht Access was the best decision I ever made. I would encourage anyone looking to buy or sell to contact these professionals.»
