Built during the Great Depression by Charles Riley Willis and Micajah Adams, Sylvia II was designed for the shallow fishing grounds of Core and Bogue Sounds. Originally a Core Sound sink netter, she played various roles over the decades, including U-boat patrols during WWII, a waterborne school bus, and later, a popular charter fishing boat. Her rich history adds immeasurable value and character to this vessel. The restoration of Sylvia II was a six-year labor of love, focusing on maintaining her historical integrity while upgrading her for modern use. Every piece was meticulously rebuilt or replicated, from her Angelique frames to her Atlantic white cedar planking. Her deck was replaced with marine-grade plywood and overlaid with Angelique decking. The restoration respected her original design while incorporating modern materials and techniques to ensure durability and longevity.
Sylvia II is equipped with a 12-volt electrical system, augmented by two 110-volt AC outlets, and features a Marinco 125v AC shore power plug. The boat's propulsion is provided by a 2016 Cummins 6BT 210 HP turbocharged diesel engine, coupled with a ZF 63IV V Drive transmission. Steering is facilitated by a hydraulic Seastar system, ensuring smooth and responsive handling. The vessel also includes an 88-gallon aluminum fuel tank and both main and auxiliary automatic bilge pumps.
Awards and Recognition: Sylvia II has received numerous accolades, including the Special Award at the 2021 and 2022 Wooden Boat Shows in Georgetown, SC, and the 2022 Wooden Boat Show Wanderer Award from the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC. These recognitions highlight her significance and the quality of her restoration.
«Yacht Access found my first Hatteras for me over twenty-five years ago; since then they have helped me buy and sell four more boats – and become great friends. Their service during the sale is great, but their service after the sale they is exceptional – without the knowledge and guidance provided by Yacht Access I would never have had such a pleasurable ownership experience. The staff at DDYS knows everyone in the boat business and helped me find the best service and supply vendors to take care of my boats – I could not have owned five boats without them!»
